But technically God is not choosing anyone over anyone else (according to my understanding of God), except in the sense where it is a believer over a non-believer. Because ultimately we were created to worship him, right? He is just reminding us of that.

So what do you think in that context?

Your understanding of God still chooses one people over all others. Its not merely enough that you believe in God, you have to call him by a certain name and pray in a certain way, (be a TRUE believer in Islam) meaning that one people, one culture, has it right and everyone else is wrong.

If you believe otherwise, you think ALL religious people that believe in one god or another and worship them in their own way, is pleasing god, which goes against what Islam teaches.

Why would God need us to worship him? It makes no sense that God would favour someone who kissed his feet their whole life more than someone who just lived a good life. In other words, a Muslim is better than a non-Muslim, no matter what evil the Muslim commits, because at least they "believe".

But a God who intervenes in human affairs, writes books, chooses sides in wars, chooses one people over others, punishes people if they don't worship him, this god is unsupported by any good evidence.

well it depends what you mean by God.

There is evidence in support of a deistic God, one that created the universe and can only be known through reason and observation of the natural world. Even Richard Dawkins, one of the most outspoken and well known atheists states that "a deist god... would be one that one could make a reasonably respectable case for...not one that I would accept, but a serious discussion could be had."

But a God who intervenes in human affairs, writes books, chooses sides in wars, chooses one people over others, punishes people if they don't worship him, this god is unsupported by any good evidence. The claims made about theistic gods don't make much sense, and are self contradictory; they are shown to be like human beings.
